Parish Footpaths

Parishioners and visitors alike enjoy the network of footpaths and bridleways throughout the civil parish of Natland. As the Parish Council’s new Footpaths Officer, my role is to help point out any defects which may occur, such as missing or broken signs, damaged stiles and overgrown or obstructed paths.

Footpath maintenance is the responsibility of the Highway Authority (Cumbria County Council, CCC) and our area contact is Tony Burns, a Countryside Ranger with CCC’s Countryside Access Team, based at Skirsgill, near Penrith. He will visit Natland from time to time.

So far, I’ve noted the badly overgrown path between Cracalt Farm and Little Cracalt, and a damaged signpost at the stile between Sedgwick Road and Helm Lane. Have any other enthusiastic walkers noticed any problems on our footpaths? If so, please contact me and I will forward the information to Tony.

Thank you
