The Women’s Institute Centenary in Natland

Last Wednesday marked a 100 years ago exactly since our local W.I. had its first meeting in the Reading Room at the end of Helmside Road. Despite all the changes that have taken place over this time, the W.I has met on the third Wednesday of the month, offering its members friendship, entertainment and opportunities to learn new skills.

The event was celebrated with a toast, a fine rendition of Jerusalem and a piece of cake baked by the longest serving member, Marion Thornton, and decorated by Hilda Walker.

Here is a report of WI activities over the last few months.

Pennies put to good use

This is the picture of Jesus which was put together in the Church by David and Hilda Walker. It was made from the pennies that people have been bringing in since before the first lockdown. Thank you everyone for your contributions.

Minutes of the September Parish Council Meeting

The issue of the proposed development on Sedgwick Road (see post below) was discussed when the Parish Council met on the 27th September. The gradual disappearance of the Post Office, the reallocation of the Parish Notice Board and a possible memorial seat were also amongst the items discussed. Click here for the Minutes. There won’t be a meeting in October and the next meeting will be on the 29th November. Parish elections will be in 2022.

Exploratory Holes are being dug on Home Field

Paul Want writes: It would be that Jones Homes are digging holes in Home Field, again.  I understand this is a drainage test where are dug, filled with water and then timed as to how long it takes to drain.

Would suggest the developers have read the comments about flooding, are doing further research so as to counter any objections we all have. Time to get our ducks in a row.
