Christmas came in an unexpected fashion when the Council’s recycling lorry broke down on Longmeadow Lane just before Christmas. The hydraulic fluid used in the mechanism to squash our recyclables sprung a leak. The driver had a spray kit to hand which he used very promptly to staunch the flow. Hydraulic fluid is very damaging if it enters the watercourse, so white crystals were used to soak up the fluid. On Christmas Day SLDC sent a road sweeper to suck it all up, so no harm was done.
The advice from SLDC is to put your recyclables at the top of the drive on your normal day and to leave them there until the lorry comes, because they’re having difficulty keeping up, one way and another.
