Fellas In Wellies in St. Mark’s Church

This is what the choir says about itself. ….

we aim to go to different places than most male voice choirs.

We are professionally taught to a standard where we perform publicly, but generally in a less reverent and formal way than some traditional men’s choirs.

Story Homes First off the Blocks

Story Homes have acquired the land between Burton Road and Natland Road shown on the proposed sites map.  They plan a development of 450 homes.  They will be holding a public drop-in consultation on 3 June between 1:00pm and 8:00pm at the Stonecross Manor Hotel on Milnthorpe Road.  This will be in preparation for a planning application they expect to be made around December.

Neil Seddon writes:

Following the post 'Story Homes first off the Blocks', it may be worth posting for anyone who missed the event detailing their plans that the public can still comment before the planning application directly to Story Homes until the 25th June with the link below.

I noticed a change from the previous plans that access is now from Burton Road and Natland Road which when the new factory opens on Natland Road from November will surely become another rat run.

Also the SUD for the site will be in the canal bed which may stop any future chance of the canal being rewatered.

Jazz Concert in St. Mark’s Church

St Mark's Church welcomed the High Society Jazz band last Friday evening.

Maturity leads to  excellent and practiced polish. The rounded tones of musical instruments were played with love and great accomplishment and with slinky, upbeat, joyful syncopation.

We were treated to fabulous performances.

Jazz may not be everyone's cup of tea but in the company of such professional artistes you could not but be delighted and your senses be wowed by this ensemble.

My favourite of course was Gershwin's Summertime!

Thank you gentlemen- we didn't need Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra to be in High Society!

K Shoes Choir last Friday night

Carrie writes: My first time listening to this fabulous male voice choir. If you didn't attend, you missed a treat.

Resonant mellow tones, deep and rich perfect in the space that is the church.

We were treated to varied items from opera, sea shanties, items sung at the Royal Albert Hall, and some sung in Welsh!

There was a new one called Cumbria created by the choir master, and we were serenaded with Loch Lomond and Fly Me to the Moon. They finished the programme with There is Nothing like a Dame! Move over Eric, Ernie and Parky!

Can't wait to have them return.......
