Help Wanted!

The Natland & Oxenholme Village Hall Management Committee arranges a very successful Craft Fair & Exhibition every November to raise funds (£900+ last year).   Midge Fairhurst has acted as Coordinator for this event for the past 5 years but now wishes to retire and so the Hall Committee is seeking someone to take over.  The main duties include booking the 23 tables with local crafts people and liaising with the exhibitors who kindly loan items for the day.    Very good support is provided by the Committee members and others who help with publicity, run the Cafe, set up the Exhibition and steward it, sell raffle tickets and collect entrance money and much more.
For more information please contact Midge – tel: 01539 731727 or email: midge@thefairhursts.freeserve.co.uk.
Please volunteer!

Open Gardens

Garden Open Event 15 July

I hope that by now all blog readers are aware that on 15th July we will be holding a garden open event in Natland. We now have 17 owners who have agreed to open their gardens spread across the whole village.

The event will run from 11.30 to 4.00 and will be followed by a Songs of Praise at 4.30 on the village green. The village hall committee will be serving refreshments in the village hall from 1.00 until 4.30.

Programmes granting entrance are now on sale at £3.00 at Natland and Oxenholme Post Offices. Entry on the day will cost £4.00.

The organising committee need help. There are a variety of ways in which folk can help ranging from spreading the word to friends, family and acquaintances, displaying a poster, distributing flyers inside or outside the village, selling programmes in advance or on the day, helping greet visitors as they arrive, assisting a garden owner to greet guests or helping on a plant stall.

If you can spare an hour or two and help either in advance of the event or on the day please contact me on collin4mansfield@homecall.co.uk or 07740 447858

Thank You

Women's Institute - report of June meeting.

Vice President Kirsten Cannon welcomed members and one visitor to a well attended June meeting of Natland and Oxenholme W.I. Our delegate to the A.G.M. Sylvia Shaw, gave a comprehensive account of the day's events.

Two members of staff from Haverigg Prison told of their 'Smokery' business project, also giving us an insight into the many other work programmes within the Prison helping with rehabilitation skills.  They also cooked and prepared tasty samples of their smoked fish and chicken recipes, which members enjoyed.

The competition for a fish recipe was won by Pat Tetlow.

Sam Smith from Cancer Care is the speaker at the next meeting on 18th July.

      Visitors always welcome.

See Natlander David Ratcliffe bearing Olympic Torch in Kendal on Friday

David writes:  My `bit` starts at Nether Bridge and I run South, away from Kendal towards the College. I start at 9:02am approx. A good place to stand would be on the raised bit opposite the College I think but I don`t know the exact change over point when I finish.

May was cold for three weeks and then exceptionally hot! Thus the
averages are rather misleading. The maximum temperature on 28 May
was 27.7 c which is equal to the hottest I have recorded for any day .
Similarly, it was a dry month but we had some very heavy rain in the
middle which brought the total up.

Natland Guides Celebration

Natland Guides have had an evening celebration of songs and marshmallows around the campfire in the Vicarage where we were joined by 8th Guides and three very special young ladies:

Three Natland Guides have earnt the highest award they can achieve as Guides.  Verity, Rachael and Evie have been awarded the Baden Powell award.  The Baden Powell award covers five areas that encompases Guirlguiding main aims, Healthy Lifestyles, Global awareness, Discovery, Skills and relationships and Celebrating Diversity.

We're all extremely proud of them, they have now moved on to become Senior Section members in Crosscrake, where they can go on more adventures and hopefully become Leaders in the future themselves!  It's been a pleasure having them at Natland Guides.
