You
may have noticed that white markings have recently appeared on various
pavements in the village. These strange hieroglyphics are an indication
of lengths of footway soon to be resurfaced. The County Council, working
to a limited budget, have identified those lengths in poorest condition
and their contractor is due to start repairs in the week beginning 11th
March. Work is expected to take two weeks to complete.
Those
who use Helm Lane will be aware of the poor state of much of this road,
and the apparent lack of any attempt to patch or repair. The Parish
Council have been pressing for action, and the County Council have now
included resurfacing of both Helm Lane and Natland Mill Beck Lane in
their programme for 2013-2014 year. Some of the Helm Lane damage would
appear to be related to water discharged from the railway bridge and
running all the way down the road into the village during wet weather .
Network Rail have been asked to investigate and deal with this faulty
drainage. Hopefully, both jobs will be dealt with sometime this summer.
