Sedgwick/Natland Road to be Closed Again

A temporary road closure has been put in place to allow Battersby Construction to carry out utility works which are expected to commence 13th November 2023 and anticipated to take 5 days to complete.

Please see below details of the extents of the restriction and any alternative routes which may be in place, the relevant legal notice can be viewed at https://api-gb.one.network/downloads/tm/4587/sl132-23-c5071-natland-road-natland-notice_2bb3a058d0.pdf and a location plan clearly showing these extents can be found on one.network via link https://one.network/?tm=135585298

Location: C5071, Natland Road, Natland, from its junction with St Marks Fold, extending in a northerly direction for a distance of approx. 160m.

Don Shore thinks they must mean Sedgwick Road, not Natland Road.

Alternative Route: Via the unrestricted sections of Natland Road, Oxenholme Lane, Burton Road (A65), Romney Road (A6), Milnthorpe Road (A6), A591, Nannypie Lane (U5654), Force Bridge and the C5075. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Poppies for Remembrance Day

After many years of door to door poppy deliveries, this year the stalwart people who supplied this service to Natland have decided to step down. This is because many householders don’t actually have cash these days, and also the poppies are available from many shops and supermarkets anyway. So, remember to remember, and look out for poppies available over the counter.

Don Shore writes: these are new style poppies, environmentally friendly. No plastic.

Waste Bin Collections

Government’s announcement on waste bin collections means that the council can now plan the way ahead – something that has had to be delayed for some time. Details are as follows:

·       Councils will retain local discretion as to how they collect the ‘core’ recyclables – meaning existing collection methods can remain in place. These recyclables will include glass bottles and jars, plastic pots, tub and trays, plastic tubes and TetraPak cartons.

·       All local councils will be required to provide a weekly food waste collection to all property types by 31st March 2026We expect councils to receive notice of capital funding to introduce these services by the end of 2023.

·       Proposals to make garden waste collections free have been scrapped – as have plans to cap councils’ charges. This will ensure councils can set fees to recover their costs.

·       Recyclables and food waste must be presented separately by non-domestic properties by 31st March 2025 – with proposals to widen this to include charity shops, places of worship and hostels.

·       Kerbside collections of soft plastics and microfilms will be required to start by 31st March 2027

Free Trees

The Woodland Trust is giving away free trees to Town & Parish Councils…

Since 2010, The Woodland Trust has given away 13 million free trees to schools and communities across the UK.

We want to make sure everybody has the chance to plant a tree, so we’re still giving away hundreds of thousands of them every year. Together, we'll get millions more trees in the ground in our quest to hit the UK’s carbon net-zero target.

We are currently accepting applications for free trees from local councils, town councils and parish councils, as well as from schools and community groups in their area, and we would like to ask for your support in getting the message out.

Eligible groups can apply for up to 420 free saplings per application window, with our deliveries taking place every year in March and November. Applications processed now will receive their saplings in March 2024, just in time for planting season!

You can find more information about the Free Trees for Schools and Communities initiative on our website, as well as a link to the application form.
