Kilimanjaro Climb

In February 2013 I shall be attempting to trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This mountain is 5895m high ( about 19,000 feet in old money ) and is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. At the same time as enjoying myself I am hoping to raise £1,000 for the MS Society, (Multiple Sclerosis).  I am paying all the expenses for the trip myself so all money donated will go to help the work of this very worthwhile charity. If you feel you would like to help me reach my target please either click on this link to Just Giving  OR contact me on 015395/61944.  I shall be happy to provide any more information if needed.

Thanks a lot

Merry Christmas

From the Natland News Team

Parish Plan 2013 - Survey launching on 6 January

At our December meeting, the Parish Plan 2013 Steering Group took its first steps towards developing a new action plan for our village.

We appointed our officers who are, by chance, an all-woman team: Marisa Wray (Chair), Liz Black (Secretary), Alison Blake (Minutes Secretary), Sarah Roberts (Treasurer) and agreed that we will aim to publish the new plan by the end of next year.

Following advice from experts on community consultation at our November meeting, we are starting by running a quick Tell Us What You Think survey of people who live in or visit Natland from Sunday 6 January to Monday 14 January - just three broad questions about Natland which will be on flyers in the Natland and Oxenholme shops, the Village Hall and the church and distributed by the school. The survey will also be available online at this website and you can respond by email to natlandparishplan@yahoogroups.co.uk if you can't get your questionnaire back to one of the collection boxes.

Please try and take part to make sure we set off in the right direction for you and for Natland!

Lost earring

A silver earring of sentimental value has been lost between the primary school and Abbey Drive. Email please, if you find it.

It's been found! Keith Clarkson found it, saw the appeal on this website,  and restored it to its rightful owner (Di Outhwaite).

Missing Person Appeal

One month on and police have not given up on finding Tony Bond. Tony Bond, aged 40 from Barrow was last seen over four weeks ago and his family and Barrow police continue to appeal for him to get in touch and let everyone know he is safe and well. Tony was possibly sighted in Kendal in a fish and chip shop on New Road Kendal. He was wearing sage coloured water proof pants and jacket.

Police, along with the family and friends of Tony Bond, are growing increasingly worried for his wellbeing and are eager to receive any information which may help to confirm that he is safe.

If you have any information, please contact Barrow police on 101.

Highlights from last night's Village Hall Committee meeting

The Village Hall continues to operate in a steady fashion, maintaining a warm and waterproof environment for all the clubs and organisations that meet there. It would be even warmer if users would remember to shut the front doors after themselves.

The amount of money held in the bank has dropped by £553 this month, due to a payment to the Performing Rights Society so that both live and recorded music can be played.

An ongoing mystery which besets the committee is the gradual disappearance of the teaspoons. There were only 33 for the W.I. Coffee Morning, having dwindled from a hundred or more. Twenty have disappeared over the last month. Any light which can be shed on this situation would be welcome.

The Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestlers will be hiring the hall on a Friday for ten weeks after Christmas. Let's just hope that the mystery of the teaspoons will be solved by then, and that they can have sugar in their tea.

The Village Hall Fun Quiz with hot pot supper will held on February 9th and the Annual Art Exhibition will be on the 9th and 10th March.

The winners of the 200 club draw this month are: 1st, no.17, Lucy Lewis; 2nd, no.30, Ronnie Holmes; 3rd, no. 1, Bob Gale.

W.I.Coffee Morning

THANK YOU to all who braved the iced road conditions on Saturday, ( 1st. December)  to support our Christmas Coffee Morning, it was much appreciated, …. and to our members for their continued support with contributions and help to make it a successful event.

Proceeds go to  the Village Hall.

November Weather Statistics

John Dobson Reports:

BRANCH LINE STATUS

There are significant proposed changes to the rail services.  Current plans will see the main train route from Manchester to Scotland electrified from 2016 and investment in new trains. The Windermere and Barrow lines will not be electrified at this point and the existing diesel trains will no longer be compatible.

Once the current electrification programme in the North West is completed between 2016 and 2018, it is widely speculated that the Windermere and Barrow lines will be relegated to "branch line" status with all passengers having to change trains at Oxenholme and Lancaster respectively. This will lead to a reduced service to and from Manchester.

For more information on the changes and how you can help please visit http://www.investinsouthlakeland.co.uk/why-south-lakeland/south-cumbria-rail-services.htm
