Sedgwick Road to Close

The builders developing the former Holmes of Natland site have advised that Sedgwick Road is to be closed to traffic for a period in the two weeks starting 31st May 2001.  In a letter from Robert Hughes Limited to local residents they say:

In the initial phase of the project we have erected the timber frames on seven of the twelve houses and the temporary frames for the remaining will be erected over the next few weeks.

We are now programmed to commence works on the roads, footpaths and drainage which will involve construction work in Sedgwick Road.  We have had several meetings with Cumbria Highways and it will not be possible to operate a traffic lights system for health and safety reasons.  As a consequence the road will have to be closed to vehicles.

We have been designated a road closure slot of two weeks starting on 31st May 2011 although we will endeavour to finish works ahead of programmed to minimise disruption.  Throughout this period we will maintain a footpath and route for dismounted cyclists.

The letter goes on to apologise and says that they appreciate that this will cause significant inconvenience but they have no alternative but to carry out the works in accordance with Cumbria Highways requirements.
