Cumbria County Council: February is Scamnesty month

Cumbria Trading Standards is cracking down on scam correspondence during the month of February.  It is hoped that people will drop off all their dodgy letters and emails at collection points dotted around the county.

The campaign is aimed to raise public awareness about the perils of engaging with companies who are involved in the sending of mail such as fake lotteries, prize draw wins, miracle health cures to name but a few.

The drop boxes where you can drop off unwanted junk mail around the county can also be used to drop off junk e-mails (if you print them out!).
Local drop off points will be situated in:-

Kendal:
Morrisons, Queen Catherine Avenue
Asda, Burton Road
Kendal Library, Stricklandgate
Age UK Shop, Finkle Street

You can also report junk and scam e-mails to the National Action Fraud Team.  Click on the link and follow the instructions! The team there collate information from householders from all around the country in order to build up a picture of activity and target scams.
